Chicken Gyro Recipe | Easy Slow Cooker Version

Chicken Gyro Recipe

I wasn’t sure how this chicken gyro recipe was going to turn out since the version I started with as a base said to marinate and broil in the oven. The kids liked it and they said it was a do over so SCORE!

Over the next few months I am trying to work with more slow cooker recipes for the family (and to share with you of course) that are a bit different.

As you can see above Bob made the Tzatziki {aka yogurt dip aka Cacik aka Greek sauce} and this is one dish that Bob always makes in the family as he is the Tzatziki king! Click here to view his Tzatziki recipe and use it on the sandwich and as a dip. We keep a large container of it in the refrigerator to snack on during the day.

The chicken came out very tender and falling apart like a pulled chicken but I attempted to cut it into strips like the kids are used to eating at our favorite restaurant. Once I cut it up I placed it in a bowl and placed several spoons of the juice it was cooked in to keep it from drying out and to give it a little more flavor.

Each person in the family eats theirs differently. Alex likes Tzatziki, lettuce and cucumbers; Spencer is Tzatziki only; while I like Tzatziki, tomato and onions. And then there is Bob, who eats everything on his. Wait. Bob is a vegetarian… did you catch that he eats them too? We use the Gardein teriyaki chick’n strips and do a fast cook on the stove top for this. {We didn’t use the teriyaki pouch.} By the way, the end result photo is a picture of Bob’s gyro.

This looks delicious! I love gyro, growing up in NYC it was one of the things I enjoyed buying from the food vendors. Usually it’s the lamb variety but I’m willing to try this. Thanks for the recipe.

This looks so delicious!!! and seems easy to.. I am a baker. I can bake stuff with my eyes closed (not too sound conceded, not my intention just trying to stress it’s something I do a lot of. Not to say it’s any good…lol….) But I am not a cooker. It is something I have wanted to get more into. I have a few simple recipes I can do here and there, when I have to but for the most part I don’t cook because it’s not my job in the household. But I am , especially recently, looking for easy and healthy recipes so this has been pinned to my recipe board and I know I will be trying it ASAP. Thanks!

That sounds so yummy. I may have to try this recipe. I’m not a fan of tomatoes, but the cucumbers and lettuce sounds delicious.

Still o not have a slow cooker but this one looks like I could make it easily on stovetop-it would take a bit longer (probably a lot longer) but I really have to try this recipe.

I do not have a slow cooker, but now I am thinking to get one. The Chicken Gyro looks so delicious and I love chicken, so you made me hungry. I never prepared Gyro, but after your recipe I think I can try.

These look good and something that I would be willing to try. I am always trying to find new recipes to feed my family. I get tired of eating the same things over and over again. I love red win vinegar too so this would be tasty.
